The word footing is a construction term. A wise builder will invest significant effort to make a solid base for the building. This often means digging a deep trench and filling it with cement to provide a footing on which to build the foundation and structure. The footing is below ground and unseen yet the builder knows that without it, the house will fail. This illustration applies equally to our children.
